Albumin Bovine (pH 6-7) fraction V (Bovine Serum Albumin/BSA), 98%
Albumin Bovine, also known as Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) or Fraction V. It is a fractionale serum albumin protein separated using precipitation methods such as Cold ethanol. BSA is a small, stable and moderately non-reactive protein. Edwin Cohn originally developed the Fractionation method to separate Fraction V from Serum. It is isolated and purified by manipulating solvent concentration, salt level, pH, and the temperature was able to pull out successive fractions of blood plasma. The Serum albumin is referred to as Fraction V because the serum albumin was found in the fifth fraction using Cohn’s method.
BSA is frequently used as a protein concentration standard in lab experiments. It finds its application in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and biotechnology. BSA is used to stabilize several restraint enzymes during the digestion of DNA, as a supplement, diluent during the preparation of nucelotide or dilution of antibody solution, and many other purifications and sample preparation applications in Molecular biological studies, chemical analysis and in Immunofluorescence research methods it is used to prevent the sticking of the enzymes in pipette tips, reaction tubes, and other containers. The BSA does not affect the performance of other enzymes that do not need the BSA for stabilization and hence it is considered to be a universal blocking reagent in many applications. The BSA is also used to determine the quantity of other proteins. This is done by comparing an unknown amount of protein to the known amounts of Bovine Serum Albumin. BSA usually has no effect on any biochemical reactions, it comes at a low cost, and it is also added as an indicator or biomarker component in assays. It is low priced because a large quantity of it can be purified from bovine blood. Bovine Serum Albumin is suggested to store at manufacturer recommended temperature, 2-8 C. As per good laboratory practices do not use after expiration date.
